Cams Public Beta Release Announced
Centralized Security Solution for Apache and Tomcat Servers

San Diego, CA, November 12, 2002 - Cafésoft today announced that it has made the first public beta release of the Cafésoft Access Management System (Cams™) available from its web site. Cams is easy-to-use, reliable, and cost-effective security software that centrally controls access to Apache and Tomcat server content and application resources. The product includes single sign-on and fine-grained access control to web server content and J2EE applications. Cams is also the first product in its class focused on the requirements of midsize businesses.

"We're excited to make the first public beta of Cams available to the Apache/Tomcat community," said Gary Gwin, Cafésoft CEO. "Getting application security to work cohesively across web tiers is a difficult challenge for any programming staff. This is where Cams comes into play. Cams provides the fast growing Apache/Tomcat developer community with a centralized application security platform that improves time to market while lowering security implementation costs, risks, and maintenance burdens."

Cams makes Apache/Tomcat sites more secure and manageable by centralizing application security administration and access, rather than building access control systems into each application and server. This centralized approach enables companies to reduce development and administration complexity and costs, while improving time to market, application security, and user satisfaction. Cams also delivers single sign-on to multiple web servers and applications by securely sharing authentication and access control information across servers and web applications.

Cams provides native user repository integration with industry-standard LDAP and SQL databases. Other repositories can easily be added using the Java JAAS API. The initial release includes support for protecting resources provided by the Apache web server and Tomcat J2EE server, with support for other web and application servers in the future. The Cams server is built with Java and deploys into heterogeneous environments providing a centralized, security platform that scales for high-volume sites.

Cams product features include:

  • Single sign-on to multiple web applications
  • Business policy driven access control
  • Centralized and delegated management of permissions
  • Flexibility to extend via APIs and integrate with other software
  • Cross-platform support including Linux

"We created Cams to help application developers implement fine-grained web application security, especially where J2EE environments like Tomcat and web servers like Apache share security," said Norbert Kuhnert, Cafésoft chief technology officer and founder. "The Cams architecture allows developers to use the same security infrastructure to protect resources across web and application tiers, while providing the standard J2EE security services within supported containers. An open API also empowers developers to extend and integrate Cams with other software."

The Cams beta download is now available on Cafésoft's web site for Linux and Windows NT/2000. Cams developer licenses are free. Cams 1.0 licenses are $995 for a 25 concurrent user license. Additional concurrent user licenses are $100 per concurrent user and can be purchased on demand. The Cams 1.0 final release will be available from the Cafésoft's web site early Q1 of 2003. Cafésoft will also make the product available for resale through qualified value added resellers and system integrators. Details of the Cafésoft channel partner plan will be released in Q1 of 2003.
