Cafésoft to Present J2EE Security Technical
Paper at JavaOne 2002
San Diego, CA, January 1, 2002 - Cafésoft
today announced that it has been accepted to present a technical
paper at Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s JavaOne developer's conference,
held March 25-29 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The presentation
title is: "My
Stuff, Your Stuff, Their Stuff: A Tutorial on Application Security
for the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)."
Norbert Kuhnert, Cafésoft's chief technology officer and
founder, and Derek Stainer, a Cafésoft Software Designer
will be the speakers.
"JavaOne is the world's largest developers'
conference, with over 20,000 developers in attendance," said
Gary Gwin, Cafésoft partner and founder. "We're excited
to play a role in the technical program by presenting a session
on how to implement J2EE web security, and on import application
security design issues. Cafésoft has been focusing on these
issues since the advent of J2EE. We've spent a lot of time thinking
through and solving network application security issues."
Implementing secure enterprise access to business-critical
Java technology-based applications is a requirement for most
developers using J2EE. Unlike firewalls and intrusion detection
products, which are largely transparent to application developers,
application security directly impacts software design decisions.
Many APIs for the Java platform ("Java APIs")
and products are available to assist developers with the implementation
of J2EE platform-based application security services. These services
include support for authentication, authorization, encryption, administration,
auditing, and notification. Though application developers may not
need all of these services for every J2EE platform-based application,
developers should certainly know what the role of each service is,
and how to use Java APIs and tools for provisioning.
The technical session given by Cafésoft
will present an overview of the design concepts and coding issues
that application developers need to consider in order to successfully
implement J2EE platform-based application security. For purposes
of convenience to all developers, code examples and demonstrations
are shown using the Apache Tomcat servlet container. Coding examples
focus on securing pages created with the JavaServer Pages
technology ("JSP pages") and servlets, though the role of
other APIs for the J2EE platform, such as the Enterprise JavaBeans
(EJB) specification, is also discussed.
Cafésoft provides software products and professional
services for managing secure access to network applications and
data. Customers use the company's flagship product, the Cafésoft
Access Management System (Cams), to easily, reliably, and cost-effectively
centralize access control and monitoring of secure network resources.
Using Cams for secure access management empowers customers to improve
time-to-market, increase operational efficiencies, and lower maintenance
costs. Headquartered in San Diego, California, Cafésoft is a private
company founded in March of 1996. More information can be found
