NASA Chooses Cams™ Web Single Sign-on Access Management
Software Solution for the International Space Station

San Diego, CA — July 14, 2004 — Cafésoft, a leading provider of web single sign-on and access management solutions, today announced that Cafésoft's Cams web single sign-on and access management product was chosen for NASA's International Space Station (ISS) project. The International Space Station, or ISS, represents a global partnership of 16 nations. NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) hosts the ground operations that provide primary support services for ISS, including computing services to a worldwide community of over 5,000 active users.

NASA purchased Cafésoft Cams and Cams Identity to manage the diverse ISS user community and their access to ISS web resources. When fully implemented, all web resources at ISS will be accessed through Cams to provide web single sign-on, manage user access, and create a security audit trail for user requests. Access to some resources will be secured for authenticated users as well as the user's country of origin.

ISS is configuring authentication by stacking Cams login modules for multiple Microsoft Active Directory servers and the Sun Java System Directory Server, a feature unique to Cams. Stacking Cams login modules enables a user to authenticate against any number of existing site user directories. Flexible success and fail dependencies between the directories are configurable. A single valid user authentication establishes a Cams security session that enables the user to access all entitled web resources on any web or application server protected by the Cams policy server and web agents.

ISS has web and application servers that provide public and secure resources such as static files and dynamic Cold Fusion, Oracle Forms, PERL, and Java-based web applications. At ISS, Cams provides web security for resources hosted on:

  1. Apache 1.3 on Solaris 8
  2. Apache 2.0 on Windows 2000 Server
  3. JBoss 3
  4. Microsoft IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 Server
  5. Oracle 9iAS
  6. Tomcat 4

Another Cams component in use at ISS is Cams Identity. Cams Identity is deployed against the Sun Java System Directory Server to provide self-management of user registration, password reset, and account update. Also, Cams Identity provides administrator management of user accounts using a Cams secured HTML graphical user interface.

"NASA's International Space Station is a tremendous achievement of human ingenuity and cooperation," said Gary Gwin, Cafésoft president and CEO. "After doing a careful evaluation, NASA found Cams to have a uniquely flexible architecture, broad support for web and application servers, and an affordable price. We are proud to have Cams become an integral part of the infrastructure that secures web access for the worldwide ISS user community."
